Dear Parents,
Welcome back to Yachad Jewish Community School of Pensacola! Temple Beth El and B’nai Israel Religious Schools are so proud to be together for our second year and can’t wait to start another wonderful year of Jewish learning! Parent, faculty and student surveys done at the end of our 2010- 11 school year let us know that YJCS was a successful endeavor so we are moving ahead this year with some additional programming to help make our second year of school even better than our first! We feel certain now that our pluralistic approach to Jewish education where all varieties of Judaism are honored and having our community’s children learning together and getting to know each other better is the “way to go for our community.”
School year 5771-5772 begins on Sunday, August 28th. For the first semester beginning August 28th – Dec, 2011, all of our students will meet for Religious school at Temple Beth El. Second Semester beginning on January 8th – May, 2012 will be held at B’nai Israel Synagogue.
Breakfast will begin at 9:00am in the Temple Beth El social hall. Students and parents will proceed to Tefillah (worship time) at 9:30am and class time will run from 10:00am until 12:15pm.
We proudly continue our partnership with the Institute for Southern Jewish Life which provides us with teaching resources, education materials and twice yearly visits from an education mentor. Our classes will reflect the lessons that this wonderful curriculum program provides for us. We will supplement the learning with Jewish art, music and family programming.
This year’s theme is “Building our Sacred Community.” Our goal is to help students form positive Jewish identities rooted in core Jewish values and beliefs. Our students will benefit from the insights and perspectives of a diverse classroom, guided by a teacher committed to strengthening each child’s Jewish knowledge and understanding. We will do our very best to help each child and their families feel welcome and included. As we embrace Jewish pluralism, we will strive to honor the traditions of all our families.
The fee structure for students Pre K-9 will be as follows:
Religious School – (each child) – $200.00
Confirmation Study Program for 10th grade students – $160.00
Students in their 10th grade year join our Confirmation Study program. This year’s program will be taught by Rabbi Rick Shapiro. This group will meet on Sundays at Temple Beth El from 10:15am – 12:15pm. Students will have the opportunity to travel to Washington DC with Rabbi in Spring for Panim el Panim seminar for Jewish HS students – (addtl cost) (Classes will begin Sept 11th – see www.templebethelofpensacola.org for confirmation study calendar from Rabbi Shapiro) Cost for confirmation study program: $160.00 per student.
